2022 departure dates: Any Sunday April to October

Covid-19 – all your questions about travelling with us to Montenegro answered

For 2021 we are pleased to be able to offer our first lake and sea kayaking holiday in Montenegro! Using sit-inside expedition kayaks, we’ll cover about 150 km over the week, combining various landscapes and natural attractions, from the green treasures of Lake Skadar, to the wide horizons and deep-blue, crystal waters of the Adriatic Sea. From fields of water lilies and hidden bays to secluded wild beaches, caves and fishing villages, you’ll see Montenegro from a very different perspective. The program is conceived as a point-to-point tour with no long transfers with vehicles. In 5 active days we’ll paddle on average 25-30 km per day, stopping for meals on our way. We’ll offer homemade food in local households and we’ll stay in charming, simple accommodation with beautiful views as standard! On our days off we’ll visit the old Montenegrin royal capital Cetinje, Lovćen mountain and the mysterious town of Old Bar.

Equipment: We supply all kayaking and safety equipment. For this holiday we use single sit-inside sea kayaks – please note therefore that the trip is not suitable for beginners!

Your Tour Leader:  Vuk has worked with Undiscovered Montenegro for the last 7 years and is an ECU registered kayak guide. When he’s not leading our multi-active tours up in the north, Vuk can be found paddling for fun around any unexplored areas he comes across! He speaks excellent English.

Day 1 – Arrival
Transfer to the small village of Rijeka Crnojevića for a group lunch of local fish (and wine!), and an optional short walk to nearby Obod Cave, complete with wild-swimming at a beautiful water hole. You will also get to visit Pavlova Strana, possibly the most famous viewpoint in the whole country! Your guide will at this point help you set up your equipment and prepare everything for the paddling part of the holiday. Dinner and overnight in Rijeka Crnojevića.

Day 2 – Rijeka Crnojevića – Virpazar
First we’ll paddle down the serpentine bends of the Crnojević river, reaching the lake covered by meadows of lilies. Then we’ll visit the atmospheric, hidden village of Poseljani, which was a very important location in the recent past. It’s a village of 14 disused water mills and people from the surrounding areas used to bring their grains for milling, which normally required staying several days in the village. Unbelievably, the first casino in Montenegro was opened there (no longer in operation)! Now it’s a mostly abandoned place, with a series of wonderful plunge pools and waterfalls for us to enjoy. Hosts from one of the very few households will prepare nice lunch for us before we continue to Virpazar, the largest Montenegrin settlement on the lake and the gateway to the National Park. Paddling distance: 28km

Day 3 – Virpazar – Murići
Today we enjoy the widest part of the lake, situated between grandiose Albanian Alps and Rumija Mountain. Most of the time we’ll be accompanied only by birds as we paddle into the more remote areas of Lake Skadar. We’ll pass the small fortified island of Grmožur, famous as the “Montenegrin Alcatraz” and will then continue to Raduš, the deepest point of the lake, before making a stop at the small fishing village of Krnjice. Here another lovely local family will prepare some nice homemade food and drinks for us. The rest of our route will bring us through the most beautiful part of the Lake. It’s small archipelago of islands, known also as “Monastery Islands”, each supporting a medieval orthodox monastery. It’s a unique way to learn more about Montenegro’s culture and history. The day finishes at Bobovišta village – from this place we’ll transfer by car to the Old Town of Bar, passing astonishing view points, picturesque villages and ancient chestnut forests. Overnight in Old Bar. Paddling distance: 23km

Day 4 – rest day
Optional visits to town of Old Bar, Cetinje or Mt. Lovćen. Overnight in Old Bar.

Day 5 – Malijevik – Bečići
Finally we are paddling on the sea! We’ll start to explore our new environment from the small beach of Maljevik in Bar Municipality, passing some of the most attractive points of our coast – secluded Queen’s beach, high cliffs around Buljarica beach, the small town  of Petrovac, the famous isthmus of Sveti Stefan as well as plenty of awesome wild beaches, caves and inlets. We’ll stop at some of these places for a swim, lunch and for a rest. Finally we’ll reach the beautiful beach of Bečići, where we’ll stay for the night. Paddling distance: 25km. Overnight in Bečići.

Day 6 – Bečići – Bigova
This day is a bit more of a workout – but you’ll see it’s really worth it, as we’ll move from the bustling resort town of Budva to probably the wildest and the most peaceful part of our coast. We’ll see Mogren, Jaz, Trsteno and Ploče beaches – after that, be ready for paddling in total tranquility, as the next 15 km will see us pass sheer limestone cliffs, enjoying their raw beauty, until we reach Trašte bay. Bigova used to be a small fishing village, and although it’s since been developed, it has still kept its charm and it’s definitely one of calmest places  on the Montenegrin seaside. We’ll stay at nice apartments, enjoying delicious sea food and amazing views. Paddling distance: 28km. Overnight in Bigova.

Day 7 – Bigova – Rose
Our last paddling day is reserved for the Luštica peninsula, the least-explored part of our seaside. For decades it was a strategically important point for the Yugoslav navy, so it wasn’t that developed in terms of tourism. In the last 10 years things have changed and now it’s a place of many luxurious villas, hotels and resorts, but fortunately, many hidden and unspoiled places in this area still remain. Mirišta, Plavi Horizonti, Veslo, Dobreč…there are so many beautiful beaches that are still not that busy and we’ll enjoy some of them, as well as views onto Arza and Mamula fortresses. We’ll also visit one of the main coastal attractions – the Blue Cave, with the chance to swim in its sapphire blue water before arriving at the little port of Rose for a well-earned glass of wine! Paddling distance: 26km. Overnight in Rose.

Day 8 – Departure and transfer to airport/departure point.
